True to an extent, but for some people the entrepeneurial spirit of being self-employed can lead to starting up side businesses unrelated to IT. Seen some discussions along these lines on the PCG forums. Takes a bit of bottle though and some start up capital as well as a lot of hard work. In some cases the side venture can become the main business.

Plus, why employ anyone over 30 for physical work when there's an endless supply of 25 year old's?Originally posted by fckvwls View PostThere doesn't seem to be an easy way out of IT. Yes I suppose you're right but still nothing to lose in applying as the IT job market will be shutting down within a couple of weeks for the Christmas breakOriginally posted by TimberWolf View PostNope, I've applied for these kind of jobs, but got nowhere. Hmm yeah maybe, but I'd have to work for about 2 days to pay for it, as opposed to 1 hour in my IT life.Originally posted by DimPrawn View Post

I am seriously considering this one. If the Post Office workers don't want the cash we may as well take the work until they decide they do. I wouldn't normally advocate strike breaking but going on strike in a very serious recession where many others are out of work, not a good move.
I am in a similar position to you except I don't have a mortgage as I sold my house 3 years ago and living in rented. Since the savings ran out last month me and family have been living off the equity from our house, not a nice feeling, let me tell you...

It depends on what type of equity release you do, saying that you probably won't be able to do it though unless you're over 50 anyway.>release some equity on your house...
But surely thats just another loan that I'll have to pay off every month with money I don't have isn't it?

I'd do a 100 quid a day job if I could find something. I'm C# ASP.Net and that's about it - i can't ven turn to a crap 1st line support job because I have no experience.
There are a few .Net contracts around and I've had a couple interviews (which went well) but you always have to have all the "nice to haves", have worked in the sector before and live 5 minutes around the corner. In the meantime I've been learning some of the newer features of .Net like Linq and WPF so I can basically lie on my cv in the hope it makes it more marketable.
