Going to the free market, as in using the lowest cost provider, rather than inward investment. I like the way Miliband describes this as consolidating our lead in offshore wind energy.

    Absolutely furkin outrageous

Why doesn't the government just give our tax money to the USA and clear off once and for all?

    Link.

The UK is consolidating its lead in offshore wind energy, according to Ed Miliband.

Miliband unveiled the £4.4m grant to Clipper Windpower [a USA company] to develop offshore wind turbines.

As part of the £120m investment the government has promised over the next two years, Artemis Intelligent Power will also be given £1m to transfer existing technology from automotive to wind energy. Siemens Wind Power [German] will receive £1.1m in developing power converters for their larger offshore turbine.

Clipper is expected to employ 60 people by the end of 2010 [with the taxpayer paying £73,333 per person.]
Vesta, the wind turbine factory on the Isle of Wight, closed with the loss of more than 600 jobs in August. Mind you, they were Danish.

There is no British wind energy industry. We are purely customers. Is that an absolutely appalling state of affairs, or what?

Quite why the Centre for Alternative Tehnology is based on the UK I don't know.
