I think you'll find many countries have a 'special relationship' with America. Government spokespeople are often talking about it in the Danish press.

Anyone see Question Time last night?
The first question was to do with Brown apparently snubbing Obama at the G20 conference.
When it came to Michael Heseltine answering the question he mentioned the 'special relationship' and put it well when he said there is no special relationship and the only people who ever go on about it are the Brits and that it's never mentioned in the US.

My impression is that the "Special Relationship" was first mentioned by Churchill around the end of WW2, and it's been a feature of british foreign policy mainly since the Suez canal backpedalling. But it's never been a feature of US foreign policy has it? I bet most Americans have never heard of it.

Much as many would hate to admit it, we as a people have more in common with septics than we do with anyone else bar Aus/NZ.
The relationship is on a downer at the moment following the one-way special relationship of Blair and Bush, and the obvious inadequacy of our current incumbent.
