I'm the opposite - It's a good way to meet more people when one has just started at a clientco, and being a relative stranger it's easy enough to avoid any office politics and such like when everyone has had a few jars.

Yes, AlfCo are having theirs on Xmas Day this year with lots and lots of food, booze and 'prizes' for the annual performance awards.

Mich The Tester Global Enterprises Incorporated treats 2 directors and 2 assistants (the students who collect all my paperwork and bring it to the accountant) to an annual dinner according to the maximum Dutch fiscal allowance of 395 euros per person. No complaints have ever been recieved from members of personel or the board of directors as to the quality or ambiance of these dinners.

Most places are booked out by summer so it is not uncommon to get the "are you coming" mail in March.

Last year I was invited to Clientco Christmas lunch and told as we were entering the restaurant that as a contractor I would have to pay for myself - £50 !!

Emphasises as per previous posts what a kn*b my previous boss was.

It's pretty much the only social event of the year here at ClientCo. Really boring bunch here. At my last client we had three Xmas do's in one week plus an informal p*ss up on the Monday.
