Is there some country or city that you've always fancied visiting? Bit of 1st class travel is great fun and nice for Mrs Tester 10k Euro would get plenty of that.

I'd spend half on something indulgent and save the other half for rainy day - we've had a couple of crap weeks so now we do something fun type funds.

Orient Express - not just the traditional one through Europe, but Scotland, Peru and South East Asia.

I'd be going for the most sensible option for me, which would putting most, say £18k into my mortgage.

Then spend the rest on a nice holiday

Nice idea. A jet-ski could be fun. Any recommendations? I want a 2 seater type that’s fairly quick but easy to drive; I don’t need to do lots of clever tricks on it, but just blast around a bit with Mrs Tester.

I'm more into sailing than jet-skis, but have a browse around here.

€10k should get you a fairly top-spec jetski with a trailer and all the safety gubbins no problem...

Spend the 10k on what ever floats your boat. For me it would be a new (well secondhand) boat.

Create a holiday fund with the rest. As RH said: "buy experiences, not perishable things."

Stow a bundle in some shares/investments long term, and have an all-expenses trip somewhere for some quality time with your wife.
