Since I dumped my Windows machine for a Mac, I have been free of all that stuff

Until I then had to install MS Office so that I could be sure that pimps could read what I wrote in my CV (those who can read, anyway), since then I have been back in the land of regular 25Mb "critical" updates

If Mac's were mainstream development and gaming boxes, I'm sure you would be!

Service pack 1 for VS 2008 is huge, took me longer to install that then the original VS 2008 installation

It was a security update for service pack 1 for vs 2008.

Laptop tells me there are 16 updates to download and install.

So I thinks, okay, no big deal.

30 minutes later it's still installing one update (VS 2008 SP1 security update).

I remember installing VS2005 SP1 at previous client co. I twiddled my thumbs for an hour whilst waiting for it, but then started feeling too guilty about charging the client for the time and cancelled. I started it off again at the end of the day and went home. I guess it's some clever patching system to save on download size.

My XP machine had 21 updates yesterday, including a VS2005 security update.

Don't know, but I do like the feature where the mouse moves itself and the homepage of the web browser is an advert for Viagra.
