Either could be true but my money would be on option #1

Burglar uses Facebook to taunt victims

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolog...t-victims.html

The burglar mocked the home owners by writing they were about to pawn the stolen goods – including a black Toshiba laptop and an i-phone.

They even signed off by writing "regards, your nighttime burglar".

Victoria Richardson, 42, whose social networking site was hijacked the day after the break-in, said the messages made the crime twice as disturbing.

She said: "I felt very spooked. I have never felt like that before.

"It felt like they were rubbing my nose in it.

"They have been in your physical space, and then they are in your online space."

Victoria's home in Hove, West Sussex – where she lives with husband Dan, 35, and their children – was broken into during the early hours of Thursday morning.

Other items stolen included a Nintendo DS games console, a purse, cash and debit cards.

It was not until the next day Victoria notice someone had hacked into her Facebook account and posted a succession of taunts as status updates on the website.

The burglar even mocked he had left the family's TV behind because it was "rubbish".

The first post read: "On my new laptop".

The next said: "Listening to music on my new phone feels so good.

"I have the laptop, phones OK but a bit scratched itll do. TV was rubbish so I left it, ds was a bonus. now to the porn (sic) shop I gooo, thankyou Toshiba is my favourite make.

The final note read: "regards your nighttime burglar".

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: "Being burgled is traumatic enough for any family but for the culprit to apparently use their stolen possessions to publicly gloat over the crime is a sinister twist.

"As with all burglaries we are taking the matter seriously and a thorough investigation is under way to bring this offender to justice."

Should be an easy arrest for the police then. Just pull back the ip address.....
