as the role will be moved to India they can in principle ask for this as they can argue it would be easier for the person to move there. But it certainly isnt essential.

Perhaps within the Indian defence sector there is a stipulation that only Indian nationals can be employed - security purposes I guess.
Doesn't something similar operate here? I was told by someone recently that I wouldn't be able to get SC as I'd been out of the UK for several years.
Saying that though, you'd be able to fund some lifestyle on 50 - 70 k in Bangalore.
