So you are going go take her up the MaggiTower.

Good one. It even fits with a conservative outlook on life.

And maybe I can suggest it as a slogan to the marketing people at clientco.

Why not take her to the chocolate museum in Cologne

    http://www.schokoladenmuseum.de/index_e.html

I was there on Sunday and it was great - they've set up part of a real chocolate factory, and it's really interesting to see the stuff being made.

They have a cafe selling the stuff.

But if you want proper stuff then just walk along the waterfront (the rive Rhine) north, and there are loads of restaurants on the left. I ate at a steak place which was OK - the meat came on a small sword which was cool.

The only place in Cologne I'm familiar with (not having been there) is that gigantic strip joint/knock shop. I'm not sure how appropriate that will be. Although I do understand once you pay your entry the drinks are free...

Tonight I will go to my nice Asian place in Bonn (which is only tram ride form Köln*) where I'll have a plate of noodles, vegetables and meat along with a drink for only €6 and it actually tastes pretty good. Tomorrow evening Frau darmstadt is coming up so we'll eat slightly more expensive and then get rat-arsed (probably.)

(* - must try the tram in Dusseldorf, you can get coffee on one of them)

    Tag Chef!

The Wasserturm is outstanding - and British-built! Spent 4 nights there exactly a year ago. Would have been the perfect away trip were it not for German pikeys stealing Mrs L_S's handbag in Koeln Zoo while she looked after the baby. The restaurant is very good and the little bar for pre/post prandials is outstanding. However, the dining room is pretty big, with a very high ceiling so it can seem quite quiet, even when most of the tables are occupied.

Critic yes, running a restaurant or being Chef - No (been there, done the chef thing, worked the ridiculous hours for no money, went back to my old job)

If only it was that easy to get a critic job.
