    I was asking gf chef about this yesterday (shortly after watching "The Germans" episode of Faulty Towers and trying to explain what "the hun" meant without going to thehun.com (NSFW!!), anyway, she reckons that the only reason the germans get up early and claim the sun loungers is because the British claim all the sun loungers early and then spend the time in the hotel bar, the germans dont like this so they generally decide to get up earlier "just to be sure" and hope this causes the british to leave the hotel for the beach instead...
