What happened to all the wanna-be plumbers?

Last time we were in this mess everyone was going to be a plumber. I can't see that the influx of Poles would have helped their cause, so did anyone make a go of it?

And as that is clearly not an option at the moment, what is the latest pipe-dream? (See what I did there...)
