    one of the biggest questions on my plan b is....

    during it's growth, at which point do I pack up the backup tape work and move into it full time, in terms of timescales I think that day is about 2 or three years away, in the meantime the empire can be run and groomed from a pc on a client site while checking the backups

    That is true of a lot of people - wait for bad news so they can buy cheap houses/shares/troubled companies etc....
    Some people don't just wait, they help things along a little by posting on various bulletin-boards and newsgroups about the impending boom/bust of a particular market.
