True but that's usually due to a cock up they made later, a fault they didn't know about or something that broke in flight. There are very few cases of aircrew taking off with an obvious fault that then downed the plane. As for hold doors, we have come a long way since the 70s!

You'd be surprised. Have you ever watched an episode of Air Crash Investigation?

Listened to Talksport last night and two guys running the late night show said that they probably would have refused to fly also. I must say, I tend to agree as once short-cuts are taken, where do they stop !!

No big deal. Happened to me last flight I flew in May.....there were only 70 passengers in a 220 seater, so they moved us all around. But it was only for take off. As soon as the the seat belt sign went off, we were free to move

On a BA flight we were asked to remain in our allocated seats for take off because the plane was so empty it was flying very light and needed to be balanced, apparently.

I can't speak for Thomas Cook but most good airlines would have done a risk assessment before deciding to proceed.

I do remember as a kid once on a flight - one of the passenger doors would not open. In order to ensure there were sufficient emergency exits for the number of passengers on board some people were taken off so the plane few with more empty seats.
