Part of the cynic inside me actually reckons it's because they're ex forces and NL know they haven't got a cats chance in hell of getting their vote. My experience of the forces has always led me to find that 95% of their members will vote Tory purely for the efforts of Mrs.T.

NL are bound to give in. They love immigration and can't get enough of "new labour". The Ghurkas are presumably being used a high profile smokescreen by Labour to give the impression that they are being tough on immigration.

Gurkhas
Nick Clegg's proposing a vote tomorrow condemning the treatment of the Gurkhas. If anyone feels strongly enough on this issue, can you write to your MP. It's easy to do. Click here enter your postcode and it'll enable you to write a short message to them. If you want to copy and paste my message, it's below:
(taken from Jo L's e-mail)Dear xxxx,
On Friday, the Government badly let down the Gurkhas. The new rules
they have announced will exclude the huge majority of ex-Gurkhas who
retired before 1997 from claiming citizenship in this country. They've
given five bullet points that virtually cannot be met by the ordinary
Gurkha soldier.
It is so obvious that the treatment of the Gurkhas has been a great
injustice. To treat them like this is despicable.
Nick Clegg has agreed to put a vote to Parliament this Wednesday
calling for a fair deal for Gurkhas. I would ask that you support this
motion.
Yours sincerely,
xxxxxx
