I agree about democracy, but Starkey lost credibility by citing the US as better.

David Starkey was in deep rant mode, but what he said was factually correct in many parts. His delivery got a bit excessive at times, but at least he wasn't afraid to let HMG have it with both barrels followed up by slamming the stock into the jaw for good measure.

The UK has not got a democracy, we have sham elections every 5 or so years which return majority governments with a minority of the vote. These Governments then can do exactly what they want no matter what, all backed up by the whip system and threats of Party ejection and deselection from the gravy train of a HoC seat.

We definitely don't have a representative government with the current system, MP's aren't answerable between elections and they have bugger all to do on the odd occasions when they bother to show up to occupy their seats in Parliament.

I assume you are talking to me? If you are suggesting I am a Labour supporter then you are unable to read - and since you don't understand how to use the term "(sic)" or what it means, that makes a lot of sense.

    WHS

And it's hilarious that he praises the US system as some kind of superior representative democracy - he is ignorant, boorish and unpleasant and the fact that makes him popular is to be regretted. Mr Cable seems to talk a lot of sense and hence is ignored.
