That's another monopoly - it should never be possible to buy exclusives which are then used to drive prices up artificially by restricting demand.

Clubs have IP rights on their kit, they're entitled to do with it as they wish.

They have a monopoly with fans, my SKA project is totally volunteer and I have to work hard and stay competitive, otherwise my customers will move away - this is not the case with football clubs who know that their fans can't just move away, so they exploit the monopolistic position.

Of course if someone (fans) allows themselves to be abused like this then it's their own fault.

It's a market out there, why should Sky and the Premier League make millions and not pay the stars that make it all possible their fair share?

What really gets me going is the price of kits..£30 for a child's!!! WTF is it made outta!

The cost of production is probably £0.10.

Also probably £1 for legal costs of making the western buyer unaware of any dreadful labour conditions in 3rd world countries where these tshirts are made.

Accountants - £1 to present numbers in such a way that selling tshirt at £30 looks like almost making a loss.

Whatever...I don't watch the "game". I got tired of the same four teams at the top each year and the little minnows entering for a year..then dropping out almost immediately. Its a joke.

Provided no public money is being used by the clubs let them do what they want.

Considering it is the banks like RBS, Northern Rock who will lose money if clubs go bust and the fact that those banks are owned by taxpayers now it seems reasonable that banks demand clubs to be on sound footing - cut salaries to pay back what they owe.

The reality is that those ridiculous salaries of footballers in this country are all build on debt - like morgaged gate receipts for years to come. How many of those expensive players stay with club when it gets relegated?

I say let the market decide. If fans are stupid enough to pay enough money that the so called stars (I prefer the term jessies) can earn £100k per week then fine. More fool the fans and well done the "stars".

Supply and demand. Works every time. I would also be in favour of short-selling the stars.

The problem is that some clubs (like Leeds) borrowed money and nearly totally collapsed - it's like the same thing with banks really, regulation is necessary to at least ensure that clubs do not have debts - if fans are financing all this then it's fine, but the reality is that clubs have huge debts and it is the footballers who will move on when club dies are responsible for these debts.
