Previously on "What would you do differently if you were an agent?"
Yeah this p*sses me off: An agent agrees to put your CV forward to a client, then you hear sweet FA. I'd like to know when they get the feedback and not have to chase them about it. I want to keep track of my applications and not just make assumptions on the silence.
All their websites harp on about looking after the candidate as well as the client but in reality all that's gone out of the window.
Specialise in few areas, get understanding of them and the terminology used, so I could understand what the client needs and match best contractors for the role.
Many agents claim to do this but in reality all they do is scan specs and CV's for matching key word and buzz phrases
Keep track of good contractors and try to maintain of good relations with them and be proactive in trying to keep them on contracts via me, because as they have proven themselves I know they should make me look good to client
Also not touch contracts that I have no clue about
I would at least try to be a little bit more technical so I didn't think Gillette when talking about blade servers
Nothing to do with Pimps but:
I worked on a site where the "CMDB Team" were using the designation "Virtual CI" for thier Blades.....
Me: WTF???
Them: Because "We can't physically check the Asset Badges because they might have been stuck on the underneath.... and aren't visible in the rack!!"
Me: What about the 300 "Virtual Servers" which are designated "Hardware CI"??
Them: We use "VM" in our naming convention so they are easy.........
Me: Where do you stick the Asset Badges on these (real) "virtual CIs"??
Them: Eh?................. They don't have Asset Badges they are not real!
Me: OK I'll just walk away now.........
