I know this should be in the contracts section but I want to canvass a broader spectrum of opinion.

Has anyone had dealing with Morgan Hunt? From a telephone conversation I had with their pimps, they strike me as a glorified temp agency who normally deal with so-called contractors who have little understanding of the game and market rates. The rates they discussed were really low, and they want £34 for a mandatory criminal record check! And references up front.

And is it now mandatory for agencies to meet potential contractors? I can't recall the likes of Nesco, Parity or Glotel ever asking to meet me or register my details. Such requests have only ever come from the agencies offering peanuts for noddy clients.

I've noticed a lot of noddy temp agents trying to muscle in on contractor roles. Brook Street, for one. In fact I get sick of all these junior temp roles being advertised on JobServe and other professional contractor site pages. It's daft reading about a role paying £500 a day and then the next £11 a hour.

One had the audacity to advertise for a change manager for £15 per hour.

They shouldn't be charging for criminal record checks either. They should pay that, if it is so essential to them and reclaim it from the client.

Actually I was taken to lunch last week by an agent - was a rather pleasant experience as she was refreshingly honest, took me to my usual drinking hole and paid for a fillet steak and a long island iced tea...

I met my first agent couple weeks ago..actually was quite a nice get together.

The upshot was getting an interview with his client and now waiting for the big yes to be hired. Maybe Im old fashioned but I think its harder to lie to someone when they are sitting in front of you and he came across as being a decent enough chap, didnt even look like a used car or insurance salesman!

The only down side was the agent was a he and not a hot she like yours Macca

The bar staff assumed she was my gradually developing 'girlfiend' (and no i dont mean shes 13 years old or is a .Net programmer), which was a bit embarrassing as the object of my affections and I were in the same bar the next evening... the guys thought I was cheating on the agent!
