I'm more of an "Old Testament" bloke.Originally posted by BrowneIssue View PostThat article does not really stand up.
'lencten', Old Germanic, is nearer in meaning to "lengthen", in reference to the days getting longer.
The 40 days of fasting represent Jesus' time in the desert.
It is a moveable feast because it is attached to Easter which is a moveable feast courtesy of it being determined by lunar movements courtesy of being linked to the Jewish Passover.
Lent does not follow Mardi Gras. It is the other way round.
That article is littered with revisionary falsity.
I do not believe there is a God, but I do believe these dodgy Merkin preachers are well suspect.
(The bits that suit, obviously

Definately not. It's got to be the old 'walks on water' routine. Imagine , getting straight to the pub without looking for a bridge. That would go down well in Adam that wouldOriginally posted by Mich the Tester View PostI thought JC was a wine lover himself? Of all his miracles it was the water into wine trick that could have persuaded me to be a christian.

That article does not really stand up.Originally posted by Board Game Geek View PostHang on...I just read that Lent is not a Xian ceremony.
The irony being that all the Xians are actutally following a pagan festival that has no basis at all in their scripture.
Brilliant !
