    Not all shrinkage:

    ........................
The study of “Soviet Britain” has found the government’s share of output and expenditure has now surged to more than 60% in some areas of England and over 70% elsewhere. [...]

Across the whole of the UK, 49% of the economy will consist of state spending, while in Wales, the figure will be 71.6% – up from 59% in 2004-5. Nowhere in mainland Britain, however, comes close to Northern Ireland, where the state is responsible for 77.6% of spending, despite the supposed resurgence of the economy after the end of the Troubles.

You are probably right. Up to now all forecasts for the UK have proved to be wildly optimistic, including from the IMF. Good Old Gordon. What a useless c*** he is proving to be.

The UK economy will shrink by 2.7% in 2009, its worst performance for 60 years, says the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR).

As recently as October, the NIESR was only predicting a 0.9% decline.

The think-tank predicted the recovery would begin in the third quarter of 2009, but said it would be "feeble", with growth of just 0.6% in 2010.

It said the economy would be hit by a 3.8% fall in consumer spending and 8.8% drop in business investment this year.

Thanks Gordon (and Blair) for laying the path to a smaller, more compact UK economy.
    Too darn bad !!!

Alf is bigger and better in 2009 - and that is all that matters.
