I know at least 2 people who have told me that they would not hire anybody that had BCS on their CV, i.e. it's going straight in the bin.

It didn't help me. But good luck to you.Originally posted by BrowneIssue View Post
However, I'm a MBCS CITP, if that helps.
What I was saying is that any organisation that attracts a poll that doesn't include the andyw option has serious problems.

There's no AndyW option.

I used to be a BCS member in the 1990s, but no clients or agents cared about it. I found the higher BCS echelons too far up their own @rses and living in the 1970s. So having passed the exams I didn't see the point of paying them the annual fee any more and I left.
MENSA are a harmless bit of fun, and they do promote 'using and improving your brain' which is probably a good thing, but don't put them on your CV.
I'm a member of an organisation for my specialism, and I put that on my CV because it means something to clients.

Going slightly off on a tangent, the entire future of my Australia visa application lies in the hands of an ACS beardie. *Shudders*Originally posted by Ardesco View PostEvery BCS person I have worked with has been bloody useless. I wouldn't even want to be associated with them let alone let others know.....

well, I'd accept this oneOriginally posted by suityou01 View PostI really wish there was an emoticon, whereby the icon was doffing one's hat.
mmm, they do but most of them aren't very jolly. They are dominated by the pointy-headed academic dandruff brigade. I've been a member for 8 years, heard of hundreds, fancied about 6 enough to actually go to, enjoyed 2-and-a-half. Depends on your specialism I suppose.Originally posted by suityou01 View PostThe BCS does seem to organise a lot of jollies btw.

Had some feedback on mine in another thread, and (all feedback is gratefully received) one chap mentioned it is a serious no no on the CV as it conjours up images of weirdy beirdy academics. I'm not saying whether I am or not btw. But what say you all. In true room 101 style, BCS on the CV, In or out?
Total crap. People who are saying its a no - no for the cv say that as they know its on theirs and gives them an advantange in the current climate at least.
Oh, erm!

I really wish there was an emoticon, whereby the icon was doffing one's hat. That would have been my emoticon of choice here. I like what you said, and that to some extent was why I enroled. That and I am fed up with pimply post grads with 18 months experience nabbing gigs. This industry is one of the few where time served seems to count for FA. The BCS does seem to organise a lot of jollies btw.Originally posted by thunderlizard View PostIt goes some way to counteract a fly-by-night contractor image.
It will impress the people who are impressed by that sort of thing: the rest just won't care.
Now about that emoticon. Mods?
Edit: No problem with pimply post grads getting gigs. I was one once. I have problems with pimply post grads grabbing MY GIGS. Not ageist, but I was brought up to respect my elders. There seems to be none of that these days.Last edited by suityou01; 1 February 2009, 15:01.
