Going to Brussels by Eurostar for two nights with the swampette. We're staying in a boutique hotel just off Grand Place where they have a fireworks display for NYE. Have plenty of Euros left from summer holiday and will be taking a packed lunch for the train so should largely avoid diabolical exchange rate

Going Ice Skating (I'm rubbish) with the family, then a nice Chinese then a few beers in front of the box....
Haven't really done the pub crawl thing since ordinary pubs started charging entrance fees a few years back!
Thinking of New Year in New York for 2010 though

I plan to stay in, and will probably have baked beans on toast.
I'm not that keen on large crowds of loud-mouthed drunks (unless of course its a CUK get together, when I'm one of them )

I'm being coerced into going to some swanky curry house, but in all honesty I'd rather be vegging on the sofa. Think I'm getting old!!

So many people live in the city centre that a lot of the town centre pubs are pretty much "locals" - we know about 7 of our close couple friends who are out this year so it should be a good'un.
I actually spent a good Christmas and New Year in Swindon once. It was the first one where a gang of us managed to escape the dreaded Christmas Day with our parents (plus assorted aunties and cousins by the dozens), and we organised our entire schedule around what was good on telly, and pub opening hours.
Best NYE ever? Africa, down the rugby club. We more or less ignored midnight local time, but the party really took off at midnight UK time, and then some. We'd had Christmas Day by the pool too, which was rather fine.
Next best NYE in a small town in Switzerland in 1999. Their firework display put London's "River of Fire" (which we watched on telly an hour later) to shame. Banks accounts were nicely stuffed with as much overtime as we fancied, nice cars had been bought, all our Y2K stuff had been thoroughly tested and we were confident there would be no phone calls (there weren't), so we really did have cause to celebrate.
This year? Probably down a local bar, where I have a deal with the owner for cheap drinks - mine don't go up in price when it gets late Anticipated closing time - 4 to 4:30 am.

Gigging with the band at the Champany Inn then off to a party afterwards.
