If you are after a car > £15K I'd hang on for a bit. Most 3-4 year old Mercedes for instance, lost 1.5K in the trade guides last month so hanging on until March/April if the recession continues (yeah right) might be prudent (!).

Any time immediately before christmas and just after new year. After that, Feb should be a good time to haggle. New registrations are due 1st March so dealers will want to shift stock before then.
