    WHS.

I'm baffled how anyone couldn't enjoy Rome I and II - The history was all there, in compelling and accurate form, and the raunchy personal interest was amply provided too (and makes "I, Claudius" for all its merits seem like Muffin the Mule!). Also the dialog was crisp and spot on, and the plot lines outstanding IMHO.

I think some people, maybe lacking classical education at school, can't identify with a drama set in classical Rome, with the characters' motivations and conventions so alien to ours in many ways, any more than maybe I'd warm to a series set in ancient India or Mongolia. Not a criticism in any way, but just the way things are.

Deadwood was far, far, far, far better!

I recall that Deadwood was originally going to be set in Rome but because HBO and the BBC were also discussing a collaboration that was to be set in Rome, Rome became Rome and Deadwood became Deadwood.

    I "think" i've seen that on BBC3
Did look pretty good, unfortunately it was half way through an episode when I started to watch it

    YES!

Season 1 the first few episodes are very hard going, and boy is it slow, but trust me it's a rollercoaster ride and you'll soon be buying the boxsets!

It just gets better and better from Season 2.

Sounds more like the Tudors, which got quite good toward the end of the series

Lucius Vorenus - Doesn't cheat on his wife, just ends up killing her.

Then you're forgetting the characters of Caesar, Mark Antony, Octavian, Brutus, etc, etc, etc.

Which one was the token gay? Cicero? My missus didn't think he was too hot, maybe you're into 60 year old men.

Don't try to take it too seriously and it's actually a really good series.
maybe some bits I confused with Tudors, another yawn fest

still, i stand by my original remarks

over the top set and costume design, although not too over the top to appear rediculous - plenty of "perfect shagging" settings though

Dialogue is a rediculous attempt at trying to make them sound old fashioned and intelligent at the same time. Overly convoluted, although that might be an attempt to pad it out to an hour

Token gay character (Awww its such a shame he's gay, he was so hot)

I could go on but its been over a year since I watched it

I think the production team's the same, the "look & feel" is very similar. But Deadwood was only (very) good for season 1.
HBO are great - the joint venture stuff with BBC is the best can we sell BBC to HBO?
I think Rome would be great for schools history, after some editing!
