    David Smith of the Sunday Times points out that the bank rate has only been reduced by a third at a stroke twice before since 1900: in August 1914, and September 1939.
    funny enough we were at war then, and although the war hasnt actually reached the shores of our every day life (ie like the blitz) we are at war with 2 countries right now which is also very costly
