Sorry Alexei, I don't believe that. He has spent the last 11 years as a man out of his depth, playing with the levers of power.

Am I agreeing with Atw; or is he coming to his senses?

Yes, Gordon Brown played a big role only for UK to be in deep tulip with his debt bubble - what he should have done is ensure that UK has got low debt levels and lots of savings it would have allowed UK to go over the crisis much easier and might have allowed to buy some cheap industries when prices are low. It was criminal mismanagement that house prices were allowed to baloon like they did in the last few years, that Northern Crocks in this country were giving 125% morgages while Brown was the Chancellor - the buck for economy stops with him, there is no other person in the UK who was in position of responsibility during this time.Originally posted by expat View PostOr do you believe that Gordon Brown caused this global economic crisis?

Global problem? If I crash my car into someone I'm not absolved of blame if we were BOTH speeding.Originally posted by expat View PostTired old tune now. Who would you rather have had in charge during this global economic crisis?
Or do you believe that Gordon Brown caused this global economic crisis?
Or do you just dislike him because of some things that you don't like, so, like a petulant infant, attribute all evil to him and by extension good to anyone else.
Pathetic.
I can't agree with you there expat. The BoE used to monitor and supervise bank lending. The government took that job away from them a few years ago, supervision became weak or non-existent, and bank lending started to go mad. That was down to Gordon.
Instead of saving lots of money during the better times to pay for the rainy days to come, the government went on a spending spree, ran up a large deficit, and now has ballooning debt. That was down to Gordon.
The government announced a fire-sale of our gold reserves, which bottomed out the market, then sold the gold at the new knock-down prices. That was down to Gordon.
The man is incompetent.
Bailing out the most vulnerable banks was the only possible action, and yet he had to be browbeaten into it after provaricating for weeks.
He's now on a world tour trying to attract inward funding. I dread to think what sort of a deal he is getting for the British taxpayer.

Our pensions would certainly be worth a lot more, 170 Billion pounds according to latest estimates.

Too right expat. Brown kicked the Credit Crunch ™ into touch with just a few meetings in the City, they still get their million pound bonuses and we avoid economic meltdown.
Brown has ensured Britain did not waste the boom years and has safely stashed all that tax ready to release it now to smooth out the slowdown (caused by Amercians by the way).
WHAT A GUY!

THAT WAS THE PLANOriginally posted by OwlHoot View PostHey HAB, I assumed you'd be on Guido's march to Parliament Square today.
(I did plan to turn up, but I think those masks are a bit of a gimmick and wouldn't feel comfortable marching without one if everyone else was wearing one.)

Something has come up here and I couldn't go.
I'd probably have got myself arrested anyway
and then they might ask questions about me being in the country

NOT that evil snot goblin.Who would you rather have had in charge during this global economic crisis?
In part, YES. He is responsible for the extremely lax monetary conditions that have persisted and extended since the nuLieBore regime came to power. This was also happening in the US during the the Clinton/Bush regimes so he his not solely responsible, but has a very large share.Or do you believe that Gordon Brown caused this global economic crisis?
