HP Source - 5,900 jobs to go in Europe
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4238662.stm
Hewlett-Packard (HP) is to cut 5,900 jobs across Europe as part of a worldwide restructuring drive.
The US computer and IT giant said 1,240 jobs would go in France, where the firm currently employs 4,800 workers.
HP announced in July that it would cut 14,500 jobs globally over 18 months in order to save $1.9bn (£1.1bn) a year.
The company did not say how many of the cuts would be voluntary or which other countries would be hit - staff in the UK and Germany are braced for cuts.
HP employs 44,000 workers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The company has six sites in the UK, including the former Compaq factory in Erskine, near Glasgow.
Oh and HP to create 5,900 jobs in India no doubt, but that's good as NL tell us, the more jobs that go to India the more competive the UK becomes globally. I'll be glad when all the jobs have gone and everything costs just 1p.Tags: None
