Monarch of England. Not prohibited in Scotland.Originally posted by Peoplesoft bloke View PostQuite a lot of Catholics have told me quite forcefully that it is against the law for a Catholic to be Prime Minister. I am not sure where this misinformation comes from, but since at least 1701 it's not been prohibited. The argument goes that it would be awkward since serving Monarchs still can't be Catholic - but it's not illegal in spite of what many Catholics will tell you quite vehemently. NB - I am not trying to be anti-Catholic.

This isn't going to happen. Even if they brought him back, he wouldn't get a landslide (or any kind of) victory.Originally posted by DimPrawn View PostBanks folding. UK on verge of bankruptcy.
New Labour brings back Teflon Tone.
Tony grins, everyone relaxes and New Labour enjoy another landslide victory.
Please say this ain't going to happen.

Tempting as it may be he will not return as his biggest pollitical ambition - and the reason why he turned Catholic - altough I for one do not recognize his 'conversion' - is that he wants to be the next Pope.Originally posted by TonyEnglish View PostHe'd have to stand for election as a MP again - no problem on that front I guess. Isn't there something against Catholics being PM? I think that is why he found religion after he left office. I guess only god could stop him.
Anyway who would want to get themsleves mixed up with such a poison chalice as this ?
