Nothing allowed on desk apart from Stationary Holder, PC etc.
Once a month, they (who every “they” were) would clear anything left on the desk. You then had to collect your belongings from an office between a specified time and sign for them. They would even take thing likes glasses, books left on the desk.
Also, No smoking breaks allowed ( before and after work and during lunchtimes only)
Lunch had to be 1 hour, taken after 12:00 and no later then 13:00
Lunch Breaks had to be taken - this had to be accounted on your time sheet
No intranet access at all to most sites, all access was reported and if you spend more then 10 minutes on a site, you were hauled into your reporting manager and had to explain why you were on this site.
Would I go back there I wonder…………..
Wow.. I could not work there! I would rather be on the bench. Some days I spend an hour on the net doing this and that, but I may also be in from 08:00 - 19:00 with no lunch on others so it all works out in the wash.
Really, so long as the work gets done on time and with the appropriate level of quality it should not matter.

If there’s a clear desk policy then bring in a digital photo-frame, place a copy of the Bible and a cross and an asthmatic inhaler on the desk. They can’t make you remove those can they?
I'd turn up at the specified time and say " Maybe I can do some work now. I'm being paid for nothing at the moment because I can't see anything"
Or go to the manager and say "I have to go see the optician to get new glasses as I can't see to do any work, someone has stolen my glasses. see you tomorrow"

Reason: spelling
We have been asked to respect the clear desk policy, can only have one family photo. I have been asked to have a pic, and need to bring in a photo of my cat…..
As part of great shopkeeping (being a retailer HO) we have been presented with a small sandwich tray to be shared between 2 desks, which must be used for every drink from the canteen or the machines.
Humour me, and share your mad office quirks?
Like most of your postings this has neither the ring of truth or logic about it.
I have come across places where they tried to limit the number of chavvy pictures on desks, but you seem to be suggesting that they are trying to make you bring a picture of a loved one - your cat.

I sooooooo miss not having any 'help' that I can abuse like that. I must spend some time making up some rules for my staff.
