The Thatcher government withdrew HMS Endurance from the Falklands in 1981 - defence cuts.
Even in March 1982 she took no action after the scrap metal dealers landed on South Georgia with an Argentine Naval escort.
This is an interesting perspective, based on the facts rather than the revisionist version, and no I don't know the bloke who wrote it.
As for my having to "learn history" - I am aware of Thatchers account that the invasion was a total surprise - but it happened on her watch and she should have known. I wonder if history would have been so kind to Jovial Jim if it had happened on his watch - of course it nearly did in 1977, but he sent Dreadnought because he hadn't cut all the budgets.
