It's true that the previous lot had started negotiations - but Thatcher did nothing to conclude the negotiations - if the answer was "no change" and she was so tough - why not just say so?

The Thatcher government withdrew HMS Endurance from the Falklands in 1981 - defence cuts.

Even in March 1982 she took no action after the scrap metal dealers landed on South Georgia with an Argentine Naval escort.

As for my having to "learn history" - I am aware of Thatchers account that the invasion was a total surprise - but it happened on her watch and she should have known.
