Agree it's weird that it's a dead 12,000 rather than say 12,002

Jobless total up again

Unemployment in the UK rose by 12,000 to 1.62 million in the three months to May, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has said.

The ONS said the number claiming unemployment benefit rose by 15,500 in June to 840,100.

That was the biggest jump since the 71,000 rise in December 1992.

As the economy loses steam, employers have cut jobs in the face of rising energy costs, falling consumer confidence and a property slump.

The jobless total compares with 1.64 million in the three months to April, when 38,000 jobs were lost
