Scooter, you carry on trying to make yourself feel better by boasting about your current VAT return but lets see you boast about the next one at £0.00.

If you've been out of work for a number of weeks (its up to each individual to decide what that number is) and still no sign of work then, you need to decide on:

how many jobs for your specialism are being advertised,
the location you're prepared to work in
reducing your rate.

Sticking your head in a bucket and saying I havent worked for £xxx a day since 2003 etc, is a sure way to stay on the bench for some time longer.

Living like a contractor means making choices on your future minute by minute no one else is going to look out for you. I don't feel sympathetic for a business because it loses it's business to another - I call that competition and it's not for the faint hearted.

If you can't get the work when you need it you're doing something wrong. When the business is not working I make sure the employees relax and enjoy life. I think it's important to advertise that which I could have only dreamed about whilst in permie-doom, I have to remind myself day by day why I work so hard... and my hat's off to people who do.

I'm sure many people on here are driven away from home to find work but as their business grows they'll find that such upheavals become less and less frequent, as I have found and now try to ensure remains the case.
