Moderators, may we ask why the link to this apparently interesting site has been censored?

I would love to know too.

Pointers maybe that in the past the owner has posted on this site asking for help to stop DOS/virus attacks - some posters made comments about the poor tools/coding there.

Also alot of BOOMED/DOOMED threads - anything seems to get on there.

He also posted comments made by a friend of mine - giving his name without permission!

Having said all that there are some very useful threads on there - tricks agents get up to, how to get rises at renewal, etcetc.

It doesn't surprise me they (US) get more done, most of the ones I have met have no life outside of their job, they are their job and little else.

You all know the Economic Laws of Supply and Demand.

If there is an increase in Demand, and no (or a lesser) increase in Supply then only one thing can happen – the price of that product or service will have to rise.

Or is propaganda by companies or governments who want to outsource or insource and ultimately spells doom for those in professions marked as having these shortages.

How is productivity measured? Is our growing public sector to blame?

Big Boost

According to a new report by e-skills, Techology could boost the UK economy by £35 billion over the next decade.

Indeed e-skills say that fully exploiting technology is the single most important step the UK can take to improve productivity across the economy.

It's Down To Us

Karen Price, CEO of e-skills UK said:

"The research evidence is unequivocal: in today's increasingly fast moving global business environment, IT & Telecoms provides the engine of future growth and the key to increasing productivity and competitiveness.

“Half of Europe's productivity gains in recent years can be attributed to investments in IT.

“IT & Telecoms already contributes £51.9 billion to the UK economy every year - 5% of the total UK economy – and provides jobs for one in twenty of the UK’s workforce”.

Astonishing

That's quite astonishing.

We make up just 1-in-20 of the UK's population and yet half of the productivity gains in the UK economy (presuming it is at the same rate as the rest of Europe) is down to us.

We quoted a report recently that said that IT had the best Return On Investment of anything that companies spent money on. Indeed every dollar invested yielded a return of $4.

It's said that IT Contractors earn a lot of money.

Perhaps we aren't asking for enough!

Training Needed

“To safeguard the long term success of the UK we must maintain the strength of our thriving IT & Telecoms sector and world leading IT-enabled sectors such as financial services and biotechnology. We cannot achieve this without widespread investment in skills."

More Needed

It seems that there are already 1.5 million people working in IT and Telecoms.

According to e-skills the UK will need another 140,000 new IT and telecoms professionals a year.

If that keeps on, our numbers will have doubled in less than 11 years.

They reckon that about half of those will be retraining from other professions and one-in-five will be directly from education.

It doesn't say where the other 30% will come from.

Very Good News

All in all, that seems pretty good news for those who work in IT.

So, not only will there be lots more jobs in the foreseeable future but it will be at better rates too.

After the long winter for IT Contractors of 2001/3 the sun is really shining on us now.
