    He's/She's is clearly not one of the Londoners who parted with their 1bed closet in Kensington for a small ransom and bought half a street in the west end judging by their comments. Most of the accents there at the moment are from Down Sout

    I don't think one should speculate on house prices. Renting has advantages but it is "dead money".

    It was property speculation that got us in the dire strait we are in now...

    That's the big fly in the ointment. I'd sell now too if I thought I could, or knew that prices would drop in the next 3-4 years rather than plummeting/not selling in the short term. So I imagine would a lot of other people, and indeed some streets locally are already choc-a-block with for-sale signs. Your timing seems to have been about perfect, which was around September last year.
