Clearly you've not visited Glasgow then. The west end in Glasgow is the nice bit of a city build during the period when Glasgow was the 2nd city of the empire. It compares favourably with any nice area in any other city in Britain, if not beats (Nicer than most of West London for example)

He's/She's is clearly not one of the Londoners who parted with their 1bed closet in Kensington for a small ransom and bought half a street in the west end judging by their comments. Most of the accents there at the moment are from Down Sout

I don't think one should speculate on house prices. Renting has advantages but it is "dead money".

It was property speculation that got us in the dire strait we are in now...

Your mate's only problem could be managing to sell at this point when it is hard for people to get a mortgage.

That's the big fly in the ointment. I'd sell now too if I thought I could, or knew that prices would drop in the next 3-4 years rather than plummeting/not selling in the short term. So I imagine would a lot of other people, and indeed some streets locally are already choc-a-block with for-sale signs. Your timing seems to have been about perfect, which was around September last year.
