I think your 'particularly the men' comment is spot on.

When my missus and her mates get their dander up about something they really care about, there's no stopping them.

Us men tend to moan and groan a bit, then go down the pub and watch the footy/rugby or whatever and put it all aside for another day.

I think the only hope for revolution here lies with a coalition of the Armed Forces and the WI.

if the oil has run out then where does the grease and helicopter fuel come from?

The huge reserves the USA is building up so they can hold the world to ransom.

On the other hand, if they can get oil from various plants/crops, then seaweed must be an option too!

That's why I plan on buying an old oil platform when the oil finally runs out and setting up my own country in international waters. As long as the the legs are greased and the helipad has an opening hatch to dump intruders back into the sea, I'll be ok.

A Telegraph article today said more and more entrepreneurs were enrolled in the Chinese parliament and are now practically taking over. It's _us_ ("we" for grammar nitpickers?) who are turning commie. Well not we personally (except perhaps sasguru), but as a country.

The purpose of the state is to stay in power and then collect taxes whilst they're at it.

Well, the intention of the state is to extract as much from the contained populace as possible, and to do this they need to remain in power. So pretty much the same, but slightly different ordering on cause and effect.
