Agree. In Zone 1, only cycles, public transport, delivery vehicles, taxis and DimPrawn should be allowed on the roads.

I once saw someone do a similar thing, but with a long freight train stopped at signals near a footpath crossing. He dived under the wagons and only just cleared them when, with much clanking and clattering, the train suddenly lurched forward and went on its way.

Not me sunshine - not texting whilst driving and not running red lights when cycling I don't and haven't. Anyone who does gets zero sympathy from me. Sounds like quite a lenient sentence for killing someone, but the cyclist was the partial author of his own downfall. Two people I won't miss sharing the roads with

Driver was also doing 45 in a 30 zone. Even if there was no phone involved, it would probably still have been death by dangerous driving.

A motorist who was texting on her mobile phone when she hit and killed a cyclist has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Jordan Wickington, 19, died from head injuries when he went through a red light and was struck by Kiera Coultas' car in Southampton in February 2007.

So cyclist jumps a red light and driver involved is jailed for 4 years.

It is hard to feel sympathy for either of them but mostly I think the driver got a raw deal.

The reports says that the phone was used CLOSE to the time of the incident and not during the incident itself so it cannot be argued that this was a contributory factor in the accident.

Naturally the cyclist cannot be prosecuted but he was definitely the cause of the accident and has no-one to blame but himself.

Another problem is peoples lack of road sense when it comes to lorries. When I'm in the cab my arse is about the height of your face if you are standing up. People think that all lorry drivers have excellent vision.

Yes, going forwards we do. On a-roads I can see over hedges, cars, vans etc. Down the sides we cannot see gumph. Especially when we are in an articulated lorry - once we have turned more than about 10 degrees the only thing I can see is the side of the trailer in the mirror.

There is a wide angle mirror. But thats the equivalent of watching a 5 inch monitor at 7 foot. Not that detailed. That is only meant so I don't mount the kerb with the rear wheels and that is what it will be focussed on. Not the side of the cab or the front of the trailer but the rear wheels on the trailer.

If I were cycling around London I would not go any where near a lorry. Just don't do it. A year or so ago I was in London with another driver. We were coming out of a small side street (from between 2 buildings) in a large artic. So we were across the pavement waiting for a space to join the road.
