The missus will soon realise it's better to get off her lazy arse and do the housework herself than continually worry you'll be giving the maid an extra tip on the side.
I used the same tactic with a young fit cleaner who was a friend of a friend. She lasted all of two weeks before the (then) missus clocked her and decided we didn't really need one.
