This is possibly a non story at worst it is twisted reporting.
I think you will find that it is standard practice in prisons to record visits on a random basis. So it was the prisoner who was being bugged and not the MP. The fact that initial reports said "may" have been bugged suggests that these random bugs "may" have caught him out.
I am sure as the blokes MP he could have asked for a private meeting and the prison would have made sure no bugs were present.
Storm in a tea cup. Mountain out of molehill. Much ado about nothing.
The real crime surely is the fact that a British Citizen is about to be extradited on this one-way ticket deal between the UK and US, despite facing no charges here?
Like the NatWest bankers... who suddenly 'fessed up when extradited & confronted by a more robust judicial system?
Expect to be
1.Raided at any time in the near future and
2.The contents of your computer hard drive to be thoroughly audited and
3.Found to contain quantities of "unacceptable pornography" and
4.Jailed for years and
5.Your name put on the registered sex offenders list and
6.Deported to the Arctic
luckily I have friends with good press contacts or 1 and 2 would have happened.

Maybe all MP's should be bugged at all times to dissuade them from carrying out illegal acts e.g. accepting donations, expense fiddles, etc. etc.
They are. Apparently MI5 has a department that does nothing else but monitor MPs and senior civil servants. Although I think in the 60s there was some kind of agreement that MPs wouldn't be bugged in certain circs.
"police may have flouted convention" - is that all?
police happy to break law when dealing with joe bloggs - about time MPs got treatment. they get loadsofmoney and expect to be treated differently from the rest.
