This needs work mate. You need branding. Not literally of course, but you know what I mean. The markup is a tad untidy, the design needs refreshing.

Which one? I know the main one needs a lot of reworking, design is from mid 2004 (give you an idea of how often the snippets re updated... ). Second one had a bit of a tweak recently but needs to be remade with css instead of tables as does the first.

Layout isn't as messy on Lazery as it is on Ardesco. If you want to hand over some detailed critisism it will be appreciated

If you can write properly-formed markup with clean styles used for positioning, and it's backed up with clean, optimised graphics - and the pages are tidy and captivating, readable and correctly ordered - then you're capable.
If you can design so the site's consistently a pleasure to intuitively navigate, and truly useful, and meet the above, then you're more than capable. Knit it to any CMS with fluidity in the pages and cross-platform/browser support, use alternative styles, integrate AJAX/Flex and dynamically generate said content while maintaining accessibility levels to P1 & P2, then you're expert.

I worked at a place recently where they had professional web graphic designers. Some of the stuff they came up with in about 20 minutes would have taken me months. Quite incredible skills. Of course, I wouldn't dream of admitting that to them, and they did rely on me to make all the buttons work and that, so it's a fair swap.
