What is this nonsense?

When my parents bought a B&W TV and Colour came along, they didn't expect to be able to upgrade. If they wanted Colour they had to throw away the old TV and buy a new one.

When I bought a TV and Teletext came along, I didn't expect to be able to upgrade, I had to buy a new TV to get it.

When NiCam Stereo came along, I didn't expect to be able to upgrade, I had to buy a new TV to get it.

When Widescreen came along, I didn't expect to be able to upgrade, I had to buy a new TV to get it.

I can do the same analysis with e.g. Mobile Phones, or Washing Machines.

Why on earth would anyone think that it is going to be possible to buy today's <whatever> and have it provide, for free, tomorrow's features. It's nonsense.

Urggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg!
