Good to see the credit crunch isn't stopping IT Contractors from wasting large sums of money on a car that offers very little value for money.
Boomed!
Get an Aygo and stick the other £10K into Gold. Next year sell the Gold and buy a better car outright. Probably some City traders Porsche 911.

I can't belive you blew 12k on it, my god....
You must have fallen for the patter of the greasy Audi salesman...
An A3 does not look mean or cool, it's an A3 FFS. The only A3 I have driven that was any fun was a 2.0 TD FSI model in canary yellow. It went like tulip of a shovel buck sucked down deisal so far it really wasn't worth the trouble.
For 12K you could have got so much more...

i have an a3 it is the s-line version with the dsg box and the padle shift,
as previous comments it is very similar in driving feel to any smallish vw hatch
golf octavia leon etc, but the quality of the interior is undeniably better in the audi i paid 15k for mine at 18 months old and it has every conceivable extra ,sat nav everything.
if you do go for the a3 try and get an s-line spec one as they hold there money better and look far better.

I have to agree with the saggy cat on this one its just a rebadged golf with a bit more kudos, to be honest I can't tell the difference when sat inside even the dials look the same and the interiors aren't that great for a "premium" brand. 12k for a 4 yr old hatch back! they're only 15 new on the audi web site (for the pertol version) and I'd bet with the finance offers at the mo it would work out cheaper than a 12k second hand one,
