There's too much chance of body parts falling off from frostbite
I think the body parts will fall off more likely after you have been covertly videoed, the registration of your vehicle taken, various databases updated, and a knock on the door at 3am a few weeks later.

In this instance the rumour was either not taken seriously or perhaps just not spread widely enough.
I think the real reasons are that :

    1) Protesting is pointless and a waste of time. You secure a 2 pence freeze for 3 months. Then it goes up by 5 pence anyway sometime later.

    2) Protesting will get you "noticed" by the authorities and even if you don't get charged, you will be "on the record" for ever after. Better to keep your head down or just leave the country.

It was £1.60 a gallon in the early 90s before the conservatives introduced the fuel tax escalator, soon afterwards the price was quoted in litres to make the yearly increases more palatable

Apparently, the turn out was due to be significantly bigger but the protestors couldn't afford the high petrol prices to fill up the car to get to the refineries.

Sometimes the rumour is bigger than the event. In this instance the rumour was either not taken seriously or perhaps just not spread widely enough.

Maybe everyone was just too busy worrying about buying Xmas presents?

The timing was wrong I think.

Perhaps they should try again in the New year when everyone is skint and suffering post-Xmas blues and/or cold/flu in freezing cold weather.
