Its all to do with 'free radicals' and 'oxidising' which are bad but are increased with exercise, doing enough to keep the flab off and no more is probably the best bet for an average person, also people who eat minimal calories live longer which backs up your point.

May I respectfully suggest to any of you that are determined to carry out the dying procedure to carefully consider the consequences of performing this act, especially at an early age, and consider doing the next most decent thing instead and just disappear. Failing that, to leave a euphemistic note suggesting that you may be gone for some indefinite period of time. Good luck with whatever you decide. Canoe man.

There was a theory a few years ago that you are born with a pre-determined number of calories to burn once you have burned them that is it. Sounds fairly obvious especially when you consider ex professional sports people seem to die earlier than average.

What I always wonder is are you better off doing exercise but generally eating crap, or eating healthily but lazing around barely moving.
And if exercise is so good for you, how come professional sporty types are always injured?

What suprises me is that people are shocked after every marathon someone dies. Looks like noone seem to remember that the original guy in Greece who run this distance to delivery the message did so and died pretty much straight away. That's why marathon actually became known - had he not died then it is likely that there would have been something else (but also with dead guy at the end).Originally posted by SueEllen View PostAnyway it's only a half there easy if you do the training.

BTW he would have died soon anyway.
There is some statistic that exercise only adds about 5-7 years on to your life.
However it does mean you can eat more chocolate and cakes, and fit into your clothes in those years.
