What about the "Swedenborgians"?
"Manny" was a bit of a weirdo too!

They are all quite brilliant TurksOriginally posted by Lambros View Posthttp://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7114628.stm
What do they know about Rene Descartes, Emmanual Kant, Heidegger, Schopenhauer, Plato, Socrates and so many other contributors to something more of substance.
I never made it even small time into philosophy, but at least I have a go.

Tiger, tiger, burning brightOriginally posted by Lambros View Posthttp://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7114628.stm
Talented, but a mystical nutter.
"And was Jerusalem builded here, in England's green and pleasant land?
Then there is that other bit about "dark and satanic mills".

All I know about them was these verses.
Immanuel Kant was a real pissant
who was very rarely stable.
Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar
who could think you under the table.
David Hume could out consume
Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel,
And Wittgenstein was a beery swine
who was just as sloshed as Schlegel.
There's nothing Nietzsche couldn't teach ya
'bout the raisin' of the wrist.
Socrates himself was permanently pissed.
John Stuart Mill, of his own free will,
after half a pint of shandy was particularly ill.
Plato, they say, could stick it away,
'alf a crate of whiskey every day!
Aristotle, Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle,
and Hobbes was fond of his dram.
And Rene Descartes was a drunken fart:
"I drink, therefore I am."
Yes, Socrates himself is particularly missed;
A lovely little thinker, but a bugger when he's pissed.
Monty Python
I know, I know, but someone had to do it.

Sure there are some oustanding people who happen to have been born in the British Isles - loosely speaking, if you include Scotland Wales and Ireland.
Brits clearly know very little about Isaac Newton and David Hume, nor John Stewart Mill, nor Bertrand Russell, nor anyone much beyond Freddie Mercury and off-the-planet Blake.
