The speculation about Brown supporting a wider International role for Blair seems a little premature. I think Brown was just trying to be "statesmanlike" by trying to say something positive. Blair seems to be hated more in the UK by the day, so Brown could only have been suckering up to the media (ie Murdoch), now that he is running scared of his own job after the Murdoch press knocked 15% off Labour's poll rating.
It is Sarkozy who is doing all the running to support Blair, and he will be in place for many years. I don't like the taste of this at all.

Sadly, it's no conspiracy theory: Europe's on the verge of being a federal state system, with each member state (i.e. country) having sod-all sovereignty.
I can understand why we joined the Common Market. Back in the late 60s/early 70s, WW2 was still a recent, horrible memory, and the leaders wanted to do something to bring Europe closer together. Fair enough.
It's been bum-fecked, of course, by numpty turds who want power at any cost - hence Europe the country, not Europe the collection of independent countries. The UK is going to gain little but give loads. It was ever thus.Last edited by DBA_bloke; 22 October 2007, 09:53.

It won't be possible for Blair to do anything - you can't have chief negotiator that is so closely associated with one of the sides of conflict - USA, I don't know what the heck he was thinking when he decided he wants that job - probably he thought that with his spin doctors he will solve this problem in 6 months and will be remembered by grateful humanity for his acumen.

Well, I'm not surprised that the rest of Europe wants Blair out of the Middle East brief as soon as possible.
I visited the Gulf earlier in the year and it was a bit upsetting to find out from the local papers that they mention the UK and the US in the same breath.
