Working in Vancouver

I almost applied for a job in Australia 2 years ago - got as far as working out which visas etc I'd need.

Then I realized that my father-in-law would kill me for taking his grandchild halfway round the world.

So we had another child instead...

My parents are pleading with me to return. They've offered us a new car! (I'm holding out for a house). But then they have encouraged us to move to Oz as well, but I'm too old now and don't meet then entry requirements anymore. I'm still kicking myself for not moving to San Fran when I had the chance (I might be working for Oracle now had I).

I don't mind it here, but its the worst place in the G8 to raise a child. So, my goal is by the time my son turns 5 to move back and raise him there.

Wanna swap? My wife is the opposite, I keep trying to convince her for us to give it a go for a few years but she wont coz of family. Though we would probably go to Edmonton as we have family there.

A former boss of mine emigrated there. Neither he, nor his wife, have even thought of returning. House in own secluded woodland, own stream, good schools, etc. Work a plenty. If I wasn't so hung up on history, I'd be there myself. Hence, off to France, for me.

That's my problem too, although I'm more into Italy and Greece.

My wife and I recently decided, for the last time (always backtracked, until this time) to live in France.

Not perfect, nowhere is, but better... at least for us. We fianally realized that staying put would bite us in the bum when we were oldies, with the old "Why didn't we give it a try?" question.

Indeed... I worked in Vancouver in the 80's...and was offered an sponsorship deal to emigrate.. feck feck feckity feck- I regret now that I didn't take it up.

It will always remain my favourite city (that I have visited) in the world....for any young man/woman contemplating going (and I keep telling my kids they should emigrate there) I say go for it - it is a fabulous city/country
