Take them out of taxation altogether by raising allowances. On the other hand - fiscal drag means allowances have not kept up with inflation. This allows Gordon Brown to say 'Sorry Guv, not me, never increased income tax' while doing precisly that.

They may have dropped the "S" word, but this is essentially what socialism is. Take people's money off them in taxes, and then give them back what the state thinks that they need.

FFS - just take less tax from people in the 1st place rather than this merry-go-round of collection, credits, rebates, etc.

Tax doesn't need to be taxing.
