For a new in-towner please excuse this plethora of ignorant questions:

Unlicensed cabbies - do they quote fixed fares, are they dodgy, or is it OK to use them (I heard someone say they are 'dangerous'?) I assume if you ring to book, this should be OK?

And anyone know any OK ones around Canary Wharf?

Are you a bird? If so, show us your baps and don't use them - there's some horrible statistic on the TfL website about them.

If you are a bloke, get any ropey looking car to stop, fix a price you think reasonable, normally a few quid below a black cab cost (City to Wimbledon, black cab ~40 quid, ropey cab ~25to30). Try not to fall asleep.
