I don't normally buy a Sunday paper, but certainly bought The Independent yesterday. Blair was certainly planning to scupper Brown's career in 2005. But then the pope died and that caused a rethink.
I haven't read the article in depth, but I really can't see why the death of the Polish pope should have weakened Blair in the run-up to a General Election. Can anybody throw any light on this?
Gordon is Lucky to have made it! According to the Independent On Sunday Tony Blair "planned to scupper" Gordon Brown's career and break up the Treasury just two years ago. Blair had no intention of making a 'smooth transition' of power to Gordon Brown....The secret "Gov 2015" programme, the start of a 10-year plan to be put into effect the moment the 2005 election was over, is entitled "3rd Term Plan: Implementation Pack". It shows that the Prime Minister not only wanted a new Chancellor but also to emasculate the Treasury as a power base...."
So much for the Granita restaurant deal.

I think El Gordo would really prefer Harriett Harman. According to a lot of news articles in the past few weeks, from both the tabloids & broadsheets, HH is a greasey-pole monkey and quite the ruthless little bully. Not too dissimilar to El Gordo really.
i'm looking forward to this new era in new labour.... i have long been a fan of Gordon Brown and hope he can continue the good work the government has done over the past years..
Deputy leader is elected as well. It traditionally an idiot, so it must be Peter Hain.
