Surallan's not a champagne socialist but a self-made man.
I once asked one how he came to terms with this apparent contradiction, and he said that if you live in a society of rats, you have to live like a rat.

Hidden agenda
Simon was the obvious choice for the role that Sugar had in mind. He said he wanted someone presentable with a public school accent to present, market and sell 'real estate' (f'k me, what happened to 'property'). Tango woman looked like a pro on a street corner and had the most awful Irish twang. Now I can put up (and I have) with everything from Indian accents to Glaswegians and the bloke from BB but hers was enough to drive one bonkers.
In an ideal final (specifically for THIS job) he would have chosen Simon and Katie who would have beaten him hands-down.
By the way, did anyone notice the building which Sugar acquired and they were presenting for re-development? it was the main IBM one nr Waterloo on the South Bank. Brings back (bad) memories !

I can only assume Sir Alan wanted someone who he could micromanage, I doubt you could leave Simon to autonomously manage or drive anything big. He consistently relied on other people to set direction. Rory probably thinks he won The Apprentice now!

sas, you're right about one thing for sure. Either fall onto the benefits system or rise to the super wealthy. New Labour have robbed the middle income / working families of their wealth.

The trouble with all these champagne socialists is that they are divorced from the crap they unleash on everyone else.
Surallan's not a champagne socialist but a self-made man. And the CEOs of most large corps back Labour. Labour have played a consummate political game - kept the fat business cats AND the chavs happy, while progressively squeezing the pips out of the middle classes.

Alan Sugar has given £200,000 to the Labour party's election campaign.
The donation from the Amstrad chairman, formerly a staunch Tory supporter, was announced by Labour HQ today.
"As a businessman at election time, it is essential to me to support a party whose proposed economic policies are most beneficial for the country as a whole," said Sugar.
"I was a tremendous supporter of Margaret Thatcher. However, after her departure the Conservatives lost their way."
Sugar has been shelling out to Labour since 1997, and was one of the 58 business leaders involved in the letter sent to The Times last week to try and rally support for the party among the business community.
"It is just not good enough to support in principle; one has to ensure the party you want to run the country is given enough opportunity to achieve victory," he added.
and then he got a knighthood. What a surprise!
He's plain Alan Sugar.

It's true Adam wasn't the most popular among some of the competitors.
